In the heart of Baltimore, the Walters Art Museum provides a look into art from around the world and throughout time. Free admission to a wide variety of permanent exhibits, as well as intriguing and affordable special exhibits, make this art museum highly appealing for anyone with an interest in art or history.

Located on the corner of Centre Street and Charles Street, about a mile from the inner harbor, the Walters is easy to incorporate into any trip downtown. The Walters is a great place to park, since it is only $6 with a parking ticket validated at the museum's front desk.

Admission to the Walters is free for the permanent exhibits, and for their current special exhibit, "The Saint John's Bible," admission is $8 for adults and $4 for students or those under 25.

It is well worth the entry fee to see the special exhibit, "The Saint John's Bible: a Modern Vision through Medieval Methods," which is at the Walters until May 24. A monastery in Minnesota commissioned a team of calligraphers to hand-write a Bible using traditional methods, incorporating unique gold-embellished illustrations called "illuminations" to bring the stories to life.

The exhibit describes the history of illuminated texts throughout religious history, and many such texts from both Christianity and other religions are on display. Many of the most beautiful pages from the St. John's Bible are also on view in the exhibit.

The permanent exhibits at the Walters Art Museum are extensive, including everything from paintings to sculptures, manuscripts to textiles. Next time you are in Baltimore, consider giving this beautiful museum a visit.
